Discussion:
Recent changes break Twitter integration

Dear all,

I am aware that there is no official GNU Social release and that development
is ongoing. Still, I'd like to point out that recent changes to git master
broke the Twitter integration in some parts.

Is there any issue tracker for gnu-social that I could use instead of writing
here?

At the moment it is no longer possible to repeat notices that came from
Twitter. Twidere just gets an 400 error via the API and the website just tells
me "Problem saving notice. Too long." even though the notice in question is
not too long.

Sometimes, you want to find the tweet to the notice in your gnu-social
instance. This used to be possible by clicking the "about X hours ago" link.
But this now only leads to the same page with the notice.

In general I am very happy to see how the development is progressing. Thanks
Mikael!

Kind Regards,
Torsten

We have a shiny new bug tracker at:

Thank you for finding and reporting this, would it be possible for you
to add it to the tracker?

Yes, it is impossible for me to test it since I am Twitterfree and thus have no API key. I try to change anything which relates to functions I modify, but if noone maintains it, the Twitterbridge will bit-rot.

I'd be happy to assist any attempts to make the twitterbridge work fully again.

Hmm, that might be something else ( repeating notices longer than your instance's max length)

In some views (they are being consolidated to have a consistent representation) there's a "from twitter" link (or which instance made it). Does that lead to a Twitter URL?

We do, it's excellent! It runs a version of this software. Many of us
have accounts there.

It's on the list of GNU social instances here, along with others -

Hi all,

Yes, it is linked from our website ;)

Quitter runs StatusNet code and plan to upgrade to GNU social, which this mailinglist is for, and is the continuing work on the StatusNet codebase.

Hi,

I'm glad to meet y'all.

Quitter is very nice!

I think free software have free replacements to Facebook (Diaspora),
Twitter (Quitter), and actual GNU social will yet seem Twitter?

If not, could be interesting to remain Quitter as it is now, because many
networks doing the same don't seem aggregator.

This is only my opinion,

Greetings.

Hi Mikael,

thanks a lot for your quick response!

If you like, I can provide you with both for testing.

Ah thanks. I see this has now also been added to http://gnu.io/social/contact/

Once my issues are narrowed down, I'd be happy to create a ticket there.

Yeah it seems that you are right. I tested again with notices that only
contain a few characters and there it works. So my diagnosis was wrong. Let me
do a second try: Maybe it is because my instance started to automatically
expand short links (from tweets) to the long URL.

I like that it does expand them, but then on retweet, it should use their
short form again if the long one causes issues. Am I on the right track here?

representation) there's a "from twitter" link (or which instance made it).
Does that lead to a Twitter URL?
Could you please tell me how to reach such a view?

There is https://status.example.org/all and
https://status.example.org/notice/1337. Both show "from Twitter" below the
tweet, but the link on "Twitter" always goes to https://twitter.com.

Kind Regards,
Torsten
